Year 3/4 football

On Thursday 18th June we hosted the Partnership Year 3/4 mixed football competition. As only three schools entered, Martham, North Denes and Woodlands, each team played each other twice.

Our team played really well, passing the ball, tackling and moving quickly. They also managed to score several goals and throughout the tournament, remained undefeated. As a result, they qualified for the County Final which will be held next week at the Bowthorpe Football Development Centre, Norwich.

Congratulations and good luck to the team.

KS1 Multi-Skills Festival

On Wednesday 17th June we took a group of children from Years 1 and 2 to the Wellesley Recreation Ground, Great Yarmouth to take part in a Multi-Skills Sports Festival. The event was organised by Premier Sport and involved children from ten other local schools.

The children took part in a variety of activities including, standing long jump, foam javelin throws, archery and running races. They developed skills which we had been working on in school as well as new skills. All the children performed to their best ability and had lots of fun.

The results from the athletics events were scored and at the end Martham Primary were the overall winners. Congratulations to all the children involved and many thanks to Premier Sport for organising a fantastic event.

Cycle Festival and Cycle to School Day

As part of our involvement in Project BoB, we are planning to hold a cycle festival on Monday 22nd June. This will involve class based activities around the theme as well as practical activities within the school grounds. The Community Policeman will be in school during the morning to talk to the children in Key stage 2 about cycling safely. Project BoB will be bringing in a ‘Shore Trax’ (see picture below) for the Key Stage 2 children to ride on and we will set up suitable courses for the Key Stage 1 children.

We would also like as many children as possible to cycle to school on this day and we will set up areas on the school field, near the yellow bars, for the children to leave their bikes. Can we take this opportunity to stress the importance of wearing cycle helmets when riding bicycles and ask you to support us by reinforcing this at home with your children.

Cricket Success

On Monday 8th June, Martham Primary School took part in the Year 5/6 Partnership Kwik Cricket Competition which was held at Halvergate Cricket Ground. They competed against children from several other local schools who all displayed developing cricketing skills and good sportsmanship. During the course of each match, the children all bowled an over and batted for two.

There were only three teams in the girl’s competition, so they played each other twice. Martham were undefeated and so qualified for the County Finals which will be held at Old Buckenham on Monday 29th June.

In the boy’s competition there were seven teams, Martham lost to only one of them, Cliff Park Junior, who were very strong and eventually the overall and deserved winners. Martham finished the competition in second place, a great achievement.

Congratulations to all the children who took part and good luck to the girls for the next stage of the competition.

Reception's new storytelling chair.

As summer is now officially in swing, the children in Reception are able to enjoy their brand new storytelling chair. This will add to our growing outdoor area and provide a space for children to play games (perhaps imagining they are in a Giant’s castle or the King or Queen) as well as listening to stories.

A HUGE thank you to ‘Out with the Old’ for not only building the wonderful chair but organising its delivery! Special thanks go to the nameless volunteer, a man with a van, who delivered the chair to us for FREE!

Thank you – from all the children, enjoying the outdoors this summer.

Tchoukball

Congratulations to the Year 6 children who took part in a Tchoukball festival at Flegg High School on Wednesday 20th May.

In the first half of the morning, the children learnt how to play Tchoukball and took part in a number of drills to develop their skills. After that, they were mixed up into different teams with children from other local cluster schools and took part in a Tchoukball tournament. Well done to Sarah who was part of the winning team.

Many thanks to the staff and students at Flegg High School who organised the event.

Project BoB Cycling competition

During this school year, Project BoB have been coming into school on Monday afternoons to work with the children to develop their cycling skills. On Friday 22nd May a group of children from Years 5 and 6 took part in an Inter-school cycling competition which was held at North Denes Junior School. It involved the children in individual and team sprint races, as well as a team endurance race which was a favourite amongst the children.

Well done to all the children who took part, competed to the best of their ability and represented the school well with their excellent behavior
