A Tudor Christmas

Children from classes O4/5, SK5, D6 and E6 enjoyed a visit to the Elizabethan House to help with the Christmas preparations. They learnt how to set the dining table for the Christmas Banquet, helped with the Master and Mistress’ wardrobe, practised two Tudor dances and also wrote beggars’ licences using a quill pen and ink.

In a workshop back in school, pupils learnt about the Tudor tradition of serving ‘subtleties’ (sugar and almond paste sculptures) and had a go at making their own creations using salt dough (2 parts plain flour to 1 part salt. Mix with water until pliable (not sticky) and bake in the oven at 140` until hard – 1.5 – 2 hours).
